6 ways we contribute to a better environment!

Kiki chooses toys and fun children's toys that are fun, beautiful and sound. But we also choose the environment. In choosing our products, but also in how we work every day. It's sometimes in small things, just read.

1. The bike!

Pascale tries to ride the bike every day from home to the store. With 2 full bike bags from Sint-Job to Sint-Antonius. The one time is pleasant (warm sunny days), sometimes less. But the car: Let's just stand! If parcels are to be sent to the post, either picked up by the courier, or we will bring them by bike if possible. Just in the busy periods, we can not do anything else and drive around with the "Kiki" -mobile!
Ohja, do you like to ride the bike yourself? Take your children with a walking bike .

2. Reuse of boxes

Every day all packages go out to Belgium and the Netherlands. Piece of great packages that need to be well packed and a sturdy box. But daily delivery also comes in, all in boxes. These boxes are reused for sending the packages from our webshop. Nothing will be lost! Boxes that are piece are used as fillings so that everything stays beautiful.

This box we reuse. Looks nice and we should not throw away anything!

3. Ecological toys

It will not surprise you that we consciously choose ecological toys. Just think of our wooden toys , keeping in mind that the wood is wearing the "FSC" label. This ensures that the wood used is derived from sustainable wood recycling. No balding, but a clever way of forestry. Haba's wooden toys (like their knives ) have the PEFC label, which also guarantees sustainable forestry.
PlanToys goes on even further, their toys are made of recycled wood that would otherwise just be burned! With a special technique it is still very sturdy and even in bath! Or what about the Wishbone re-bike ? The name says it self, this bike is made of recycled carpets!

4. Toys that last for a long time

We always choose toys that do not play after a while. You do not have to throw away or buy again soon. It goes without saying that this is win-win! Easy and cheap for you and good for nature! But tough toy is just a beginning, toys that are also a challenge, is certainly equally important. On our blog you will read 5 mistakes that are best avoided when you buy toys .

5. Avoid blister packing

The packaging of products is available in all types and sizes. At Kiki we avoid so-called "blister packaging". That is a packaging that contains very translucent plastic, made of petroleum and can be hardly recycled. And by the way, we do not like such packages at all!

6. Paper bags

Whoever buys something in our store and needs a bag (which certainly is not always the case) will get us a paper bag. These are sturdy so you can reuse them, they are made from recycled paper and are very easy to recycle.paper bags toy store kiki
You read it, it may be small business, but let's hope it makes a difference. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Then we would love to hear that!

First orchard of Haba: tested!

I'm from a family of real gaming fans.  And then I do not mean 'games', but the  old school  companions  games  .  Cozy but fanatic with all around the board.  And now that I am a mother of a toddler and a toddler, I have discovered that there are also a lot of fun games for that age.  For example, we learned a little while ago about Haba's First Orchard.  A game by which my boys are now also infected with the game virus. Win together or lose together Eerste Boomgaard is the perfect game to announce your children with games.  The rules of the game are easy to understand and for a two-year-old child.  What I like so much is that you do not play against each other but with all of them.  There are four stuffed fruit trees to be picked empty before the raven reaches the orchard.  The fruit can be picked by throwing a dice.  Throw green, then you put an apple into the basket, with blue a plum and so on.  But if y...

Let's Play Out!

It has been a trend for some years, but children are less likely to play outside.  That's not a good news because playing outside is not only healthy and educational but also fun.  Let's all play together together! How often do children play outside?  And how does that happen? If we can believe British research (read well: British, which does not apply to Flanders and the Netherlands)  , children are on average less than prisoners.  For example, 26% of children in question would play out for less than half an hour a week.  That's really little.  This trend would be explained by various causes.  On the one hand, it appears that parents are more cautious and see more dangers in outdoor games, on the other hand, electronic toys such as tablets are an attractive alternative for children to simply stay in.  Some researchers also say that more school work leads to less outdoor games.  A lack of safe playgrounds or a quiet street does not ...
