You may recognize the situation in which your toddler / toddler gets angry because you have given him / her the wrong sign or rather to stay in the playground than to go home?
Driftbuien, it happens to every child. But what if they are so often present that you absolutely do not know what to do? And you ask yourself very often if there is nothing else going on. At such moments it may be good to hear and / or read that those drift bends are actually very normal. They do not make you a bad parent at all, on the contrary. It is something that a child simply overcomes and often has to do with being unable to express what they feel and / or think and the limited skills to regulate emotions. Children are overwhelmed by their emotions during such a mess and have no control over themselves.
There are a lot of opinions about how to deal with these drift blasts. But lately, you've heard more often that the child ignores and / or punishes does not offer a solution at all. Because I have a lot of trouble with myself lately, I tested all kinds of advice. Punishing and ignoring does not help here. On the contrary, it often causes the mood to last longer.
The following tips I give you are based on my own experiences. Exact science is not. Do you have any additions? Please let us know by a response!
- Always keep yourself calm, although it is sometimes very difficult. You may feel powerless and / or angry (start) during a drift breeze. But reacting with the same behavior, children usually teach that it is normal to respond in such a way. Moreover, with your own anger, the situation is even worse. So, keep calm and keep calm is the best advice I can give.
- Put the child in a safe place so that he / she can not hurt if he / she barks with his / her head. If a drift occurs in the street or in another hazardous area, try to secure the situation as soon as possible. This is certainly not always evident, but the extra stress that your child walks on the streets, for example, can really miss you as a toothache.
- Let your child, at his / her own pace, be calm. It's important to stay close and find out where you can help the child as an adult. Some calm down when they cuddle. Others need quiet words. And others get crazy when caught. Experimentation is thus the message. Anyway, it may help communicate with the child at eye level.
- If you get it difficult yourself, realize that your child feels the same and certainly not having fun. Count up to 10 but try to stay in the same space. Going away means that those who dearly see them ignore them when they really need that person.
- If your child is regularly in a hurricane, you sometimes feel the mood. The drift of his can then do miracles. That's how I thought of a secret moment together with my oldest daughter. When we protrude our tongue, we refer to that secret. Sometimes, when I notice something bubbling inside her, I put out my tongue (before she gets really angry.) In most cases she jumps on the car of our secret and disappears her rage as snow for the sun. So think of something fun with your child, that you can use as a derivative maneuver. Betting that it works?
